Album Review: Black Label Society – “Engines of Demolition” (2026)

Released on March 27, 2026 Black Label Society twelfth studio album “Engines of Demolition” is widely recognized as a very intimate and emotionally charged contribution to the band discography. Written during a tumultuous four-year period, the album captures a raw duality, balancing Zakk Wylde signature blues-soaked riffs with profound vulnerability.

A Tribute to Ozzy: The album emotional centerpiece is “Ozzy’s Song” a piano-driven tribute to Zakk Wylde mentor, Ozzy Osbourne. It is described as a heartfelt. Sincere farewell and one of the most emotional moments in the band career, arguably matching the impact of “In This River”.

“I saw you yesterday
Before you went away
Remember when
Never thinking it would end?
Blue skies up above
But soon we’d feel the cold
Although we knew
We chose not to know, not to know
But it’s okay”

The album is described as a “sincere ride through the peaks and valleys” of recent years, including periods of mourning and celebration. Critics note the album features “soul-baring” moments alongside intense, high-octane hard rock.

The lyrics and tone are described as authentic, honest and sincere particularly in dealing with loss and brotherhood. “Engines of Demolition” continues the band “doom-blues” sound. Which blends Sabbath-inspired heaviness with blues-rooted grooves.

The album maintains the familiar BLS personality loud, unhinged hard rock and “tectonic heaviness”.

While not breaking significantly new ground, the album shows a mature. Focused songwriting approach, providing a “well-shaped” experience that flows well.

With songs like “Gatherer of Souls” and “Name In Blood” the record highlights technical, wah-drenched guitar work from both Zakk Wylde and Dario Lorina.

“Engines of Demolition” is seen as a high-water mark for the band, proving they can offer high-energy “ballsy” rock and roll while delivering deeply personal, intimate songs.
