Ozzy Osbourne, the pioneering voice of heavy metal and founding frontman of Black Sabbath died at the age of 76.
The legendary vocalist passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family. His death comes just weeks after his final public performance at “Back to the Beginning” a farewell concert in Birmingham on July 5th, where he reunited with his Black Sabbath bandmates one last time.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Ozzy” the Osbourne family said in a statement. “He fought until the very end, surrounded by love and music”.
Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3rd, 1948, in Aston, Birmingham, Ozzy rose from humble beginnings to global superstardom. With the 1970 release of Black Sabbath, he helped define a genre and laid the foundation for what we now call heavy metal. Tracks like “Paranoid”, “Iron Man” and “War Pigs” became anthems of rebellion and doom powered by Osbourne haunting voice.
In 1979 he launched a massively successful solo career, debuting with “Blizzard of Ozz” which gave the world iconic tracks such as “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley”. His solo work cemented him not only as a metal god but a cultural icon.

Ozzy was also known for his crazy stage antics including the infamous 1982 incident in which he chewed the head off a bat. Despite controversy drug struggles and near-death experiences he remained a steadfast and enduring character in rock music.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020 and plagued by spinal injuries following a serious fall in 2019, Osbourne had spent his final years mostly offstage but never out of the spotlight. He often appeared in public using a wheelchair yet he continued to connect with fans through music, media and family updates.

Alongside his musical legacy Ozzy reached a new generation with the MTV reality series “The Osbournes” showing a raw, humorous and human side of the metal icon that resonated with millions.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Aimee, Kelly, Jack and three others from previous relationships. He also leaves behind a legacy that shaped generations of musicians and fans.
