Powerslave
Iron Maiden’s fifth studio album, Powerslave, was released in 1984 and re-released in 2002 by Sanctuary and Columbia Records in the United States. The album features an Ancient Egypt theme, which was carried over to the World Slavery Tour. The band’s longest and most arduous tour to date.
The album also contains a musical re-telling of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Which was Iron Maiden’s longest song for over 30 years until it was surpassed by “Empire of the Clouds” from their 2015 album The Book of Souls.
Powerslave is the band’s first album to feature the same personnel as their previous studio release, and their last album to feature an instrumental piece. The album also features “2 Minutes to Midnight” and “Aces High” as singles.
The Number Of The Beast
The Number of the Beast is the third studio album by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released in 1982. It was their first to feature vocalist Bruce Dickinson and their last with drummer Clive Burr.
The album achieved critical and commercial success, becoming the band’s first to top the UK Albums Chart and reach the top 40 of the US Billboard 200.
It produced the singles “Run to the Hills” and “The Number of the Beast”. With the former becoming the band’s first top-ten UK single. The album was controversial in the United States due to religious references in its artwork and title track.
Since its release, “The Beast” has been an alternate name for Iron Maiden and used in compilations and live releases.
