Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith

Album Review: Judas Priest – Defenders of the Faith (1984)

In 1984 Judas Priest returned with a mission: prove that classic heavy metal could still hit harder than ever. The result was “Defenders of the Faith” a powerful follow-up to the hugely successful “Screaming for Vengeance” and one of the band most relentless records.

From the moment ā€œFreewheel Burningā€ explodes out of the speakers, the album makes its intent clear. Fast, aggressive and packed with razor sharp riffs, it’s Priest at full throttle. The record mixes speed and melody effortlessly, delivering anthem after anthem.

Tracks like ā€œJawbreakerā€ and ā€œThe Sentinelā€ shows the incredible twin-guitar attack of Glenn Tipton and K. K. Downing, while Rob Halford pushes his legendary voice to soaring heights. Meanwhile darker and heavier songs like ā€œNight Comes Downā€ and ā€œLove Bitesā€ add atmosphere and depth to the album.

Though it didn’t produce a massive radio hit like ā€œYou’ve Got Another Thing Cominā€™ā€ remains a favorite among metal fans for its consistency, intensity and pure heavy metal spirit.

Over 40 years later, it still stands as a proud reminder of why Judas Priest are truly defenders of the faith.
