Renowned rock journalist Steve Rosen has revealed his highly anticipated book, “Tonechaser – Understanding Edward: My 26-Year Journey With Edward Van Halen”. This book offers an intimate and honest portrayal of Rosen’s unique friendship with the legendary guitarist Edward Van Halen, spanning from 1977 to 2003.
Described as “an authentic and up-close glimpse into what it meant to be friends with the greatest guitar player on the planet”, “Tonechaser” guarantees readers a front-row seat into the life of Edward Van Halen. Rosen shares personal stories, recounting moments of jam sessions. Introductions to other musical icons like Ritchie Blackmore, Billy Gibbons, and Les Paul, joint attendance at NAMM Shows. And even the simple act of buying guitar strings for Van Halen.

The inception of “Tonechaser” took place on August 24, 2020—Rosen’s birthday—approximately six weeks before Edward’s passing. Reflecting on their friendship, Rosen felt a strong desire to document the experiences he shared with the guitar virtuoso. Despite initially abandoning the idea of writing about their friendship in the ’80s. Rosen embarked on this writing journey in 2020, completing the book in October 2021.
