Walls of Jericho

Album Review: Helloween – Walls of Jericho

The iconic Keepers duet frequently overshadows Helloween’s debut album. When it comes to the earliest iconic metal albums, a few people think about this treasure. It took me a long to figure it out. The production quality may not be ideal, but the remastered version resolves that issue.

The band really took inspiration from the “Happy Happy Halloween” theme in the film Halloween III: Season of the Witch, but they successfully blended the tune of the nursery rhyme “London Bridge Is Falling Down” into the title track.

There is no need for additional comparisons. Walls Of Jericho is the ultimate classic Helloween album, yet it’s not limited to that. It also claims the title of finest speed metal album out there. Walls Of Jericho outperforms it in terms of speed, catchiness, and duration. This album’s power lies in its simplicity, and it never fails to enthral. After a few listens, you’ll remember every melody and solo, ensuring a memorable musical experience.

In contrast to many speed metal records, it stands the test of time. Each song has its own distinct charm. However, there are a few components in this record that keep it from being flawless. Tracks include Cry for Freedom, Reptile, and Gorgar. The CD may become less appealing if we were to take these tunes off. They have some strong moments, arguably the most forceful on the record.

Helloween: Unleashing the Power of Metal

The other two tracks are traditional Helloween songs with a dash of silliness. They aren’t as fast-paced as the rest of the album, which makes them more bearable, but they still pale in contrast to the intensity of the other songs. Oh, and don’t forget about the Gorgar solo, it is simply fantastic!

There are several standout tunes, but my personal favourite is Ride the Sky. The main riff is truly mindblowing. Also, Guardians is a good song with epic power metal lyrics. It’s perplexing how a poor band can outperform the genre’s greats. Regardless of whether other bands sounded better or had stronger singers, it was their brilliant songwriting that drove them to legendary status. This CD is essential for every fan of heavy music. And never forget: Heavy metal is the ultimate law!
