Album Review: Iron Maiden – The Number of the Beast (1982)

When Iron Maiden released “The Number of the Beast” in 1982 they did more than simply make an album. They set new standards in heavy metal. This iconic record was Iron Maiden’s breakthrough and the turning point in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) highlighting the band’s evolution and the arrival of Bruce Dickinson as their official vocalist.

Notable Tracks:

“Run to the Hills” is a high-octane song that blends galloping guitars with passionate vocals that tell the tale of Native American sufferings all through the Americas’ colonisation.

“The Number of the Beast” the title track is a classic piece of metal music, recognised for its grim themes and recognisable riff. Its difficult subject matter and theatrical delivery helped cement Iron Maiden’s status in the metal cult.

“Hallowed Be Thy Name” is a towering epic that combines lyrical narrative with incredible talent, exploring the thoughts of a man awaiting execution, and has become one of Maiden’s most popular and praised song.

Why It’s Iconic:

“The Number of the Beast” is more than just an album; it’s a heavy metal standard. This album highlighted Iron Maiden’s global success and influenced the NWOBHM movement.
