Originating in Italy the recently founded black/death metal band Mortress combines complex musicianship with vicious aggression. Carlo Desimone the guitarist and Federica Ansanelli the bassist and synth player, formed the band. Both artists come from quite diverse solo projects before their paths crossed. Carlo was experimenting with a distinctive fusion of heavy metal, death metal and neoclassical elements, while Federica had previously headed a one-woman black metal band. The combination of these disparate components produced Mortress potent and unique sound, which blends the gloom of black metal with the refinement and precision of neoclassical metal.
The Mortress lineup was complete with percussionist Lorenzo Aimo. Lorenzo dynamic drumming technique gave the band a new level of adaptability and helped them move away from traditional black metal terrain. His efforts distinguish Mortress from its rivals by bringing an intriguing fusion of intricacy and strength.
