When bassist Steven Wussow (Orden Ogan, ex-Xandria) unexpectedly messaged his long-time bandmate Axel Ritt (ex-Grave Digger) on WhatsApp in the summer of 2023 it sparked an artistic spark. The two, who had collaborated on DOMAIN, were both fans of the great songs, melodies and musicals of the 1980s. Wussow suggested starting a band that would pay homage to the classic hallmarks of that time period while maintaining a modern sound that appeals to the current music landscape.

Ritt, a seasoned songwriter, guitarist and producer, quickly embraced the concept. With his expertise in crafting memorable rock tunes, he agreed on the classic rock line-up of vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Together, they brought in Timmi Breideband (Gregorian, ex-Freedom Call, ex-Bonfire) to provide the powerful beats. Punch and showmanship needed to anchor the group’s sound. With Breideband behind the drums the foundation was set for JÄST.
The final key piece fell into place when the band found Jessica Conte, a talented young vocalist with Sicilian roots, through a Facebook search. Despite her youth, Jessica musical influences were rooted in the 70s and 80s. Making her the perfect frontwoman for JÄST. Since then, her explosive voice has astounded both critics and fans, establishing her as one of the finest rock singers in the country. According to Steven Wussow, Jessica’s powerful vocals “blow the boys away” providing the ideal amount of intensity for the band’s songs.
The name JÄST is a nod to the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA, as the band’s name is derived from the first letters of the band members first names. This clever tribute reflects their commitment to combining classic rock’s catchy melodies with modern production values.
“Bring Rock Back To Radio!” is the clear mission statement of JÄST. Their music blends excellent composition, genuine sing-along-friendly lyrics and a dynamic live performance that attracts listeners. With a sound that combines the greatest elements of 80s rock. With a new contemporary twist JÄST is prepared to provide rock music that is both fresh and nostalgic.
