Metallica emerged victorious at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 4th, clinching the prestigious Best Metal Performance award for their track “72 Seasons”, the title song from their 2023 album. The band’s bassist, Robert Trujillo, graciously accepted the honor on their behalf during the live-streamed “Premiere Ceremony”.
In a year dominated by boyngeius and Paramore in the rock categories, Metallica stood as the sole heavy act to secure a Grammy. The iconic metal band triumphed over fierce competition from Disturbed, Ghost, Slipknot, and Spiritbox, solidifying their esteemed recognition. This victory brings Metallica’s Grammy count to an impressive nine, the highest number achieved by any metal band.
During his acceptance speech, Trujillo acknowledged the absence of Lars, James, and Kirk, who were spending quality time with their families. He emphasized the significance of family to all band members. Trujillo, residing in Southern California, humorously mentioned that his proximity made attending the ceremony a tad easier.

He also expressed gratitude towards their exceptional producer, Greg Fidelman, and the entire recording team, highlighting the familial bond that develops during the album creation process. Trujillo encouraged the younger generation to preserve musical instruments and continue pursuing music, keeping the dream alive.
Metallica also received nominations for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance, but Paramore and boygenius emerged as the winners in those respective categories. For a comprehensive list of the 2024 Grammy Award winners, please refer to the official announcement.
