Not every Savatage classic needs to crush you with riffs.
Sometimes the piano does the damage.
“When the Crowds Are Gone” is haunting, emotional and beautifully atmospheric, with Jon Oliva delivering one of the band most distinctive vocal performances.
The kind of song that stays with you long after it ends.
“Sirens” – Sirens (1983)
Before the concept albums, progressive twists and theatrical masterpieces, there was “Sirens”.
Dark. Raw. Heavy.
The title track from Savatage debut still sounds sinister decades later and shows just how much attitude the band had right from the beginning.
“Morphine Child” – Poets and Madmen (2001)
Nearly ten minutes of Savatage doing what Savatage do best.
“Morphine Child” moves through heavy riffs, melodic passages and progressive twists without ever feeling like the band is showing off just for the sake of it.
For fans who want their Savatage epic, this is a serious contender.
“The Wake of Magellan” – The Wake of Magellan (1997)
Grand, progressive and packed with atmosphere “The Wake of Magellan” represents the band adventurous side.
It’s ambitious Savatage at full scale.
And they weren’t holding back.
“Strange Wings” – Hall of the Mountain King (1987)
One of the melodic standouts from one of Savatage defining albums.
“Strange Wings” has the riffs, hooks and atmosphere that made the band classic era so memorable.
A deep enough cut to make the vote interesting but too good to ignore.
“Handful of Rain” – Handful of Rain (1994)
Emotional without becoming soft “Handful of Rain” shows just how much power Savatage could create through melody and atmosphere.
