The band’s first album to reach the top of the UK Albums Chart, “The Number of the Beast” was well-received by critics and consumers alike. The album featured the band’s first top ten UK song “The Number of the Beast” as well as the single “Run to the Hills”.

The album’s religious undertones in both the artwork and the lyrics of the title track sparked controversy, particularly in the United States. Iron Maiden has used the moniker “The Beast” since the release of “The Number of the Beast”. It has used as the title for numerous of their live albums and anthologies, including “Best of the Beast” and “Visions of the Beast”.
