The much-awaited documentary series “Nothin’ but a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ’80s Hair Metal“ will debut on Paramount+ on this day. September 17 is the exclusive premiere date for the series.
The 2021 book by Richard Bienstock and Tom Beaujour which provides a comprehensive oral history of the colourful and explosive hard rock scene of the 1980s served as the model for this new docuseries. Legendary bands from the era such as Great White, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, Quiet Riot, Skid Row and W.A.S.P., will be performing at Nothin’ but a Good Time.
According to the official series description viewers can expect an in-depth look at the hair metal movement of the 1980s which enthralled music fans and is still relevant today. With a director credit of Jeff Tremaine (of “Jackass” and “The Dirt”) this three-part documentary includes unscripted interviews with important characters from the time period including Dave “Snake” Sabo, Bret Michaels, Stephen Pearcy, Nuno Bettencourt and Riki Rachtman. Steve-O and Corey Taylor are two contemporary voices that contribute to the history of this legendary music scene.

Headbangers Ball: A Nostalgic Journey Through Metal’s Iconic Era
Bret Michaels reflects on the thrill of the 1980s in the teaser saying: “It was an amazing time in music”. We gambled on ourselves, and it was fantastic when it came off”. But the show also delves into more sinister truths; Alan Niven, the former manager of Great White and Guns N’ Roses, questions the show’s light-hearted appearance. “It was enjoyable, but nothing more? Not the life I fucked up.” As guitarist for L.A. Guns Tracii Guns puts it, “I feel like I’m gonna die, so I probably shouldn’t be doing this band.”
“Nothing but a Fun Experience” is the second ’80s hard rock-themed docuseries to air onParamount+ in less than a year after “I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream” which premiered last summer.
