The story that defined progressive metal is about to reach its explosive conclusion. Geoff Tate has confirmed that “Operation: Mindcrime III” will arrive in May 2026, with the first single “Power” expected to drop around March 20.
Serving as the final chapter to the legendary saga first launched by Queensrÿche, the new album revisits the dark world of Nikki, Sister Mary and the sinister Dr. X. And this time told from Dr. X’s perspective. Tate promises a sound rooted in the band early era: heavy, technical, cinematic and emotionally charged.
Adding even more intrigue, the album is produced by John Moyer of Disturbed with songwriting contributions from guitarists Kieran Robertson and Alex Hart. Tate has boldly described the material as “miles above” the original 1988 classic. A statement sure to spark debate among longtime fans.
After decades of speculation the Mindcrime story is finally coming full circle. The only question now: can any sequel truly match one of metal most iconic concept albums?
