“Cryptic Writings” is Megadeth seventh studio album released in 1997. The album features twelve tracks with accessible song structures and altered lyrics to make it more inclusive for radio airplay.

Megadeth’s commercial breakthrough in 1992 attributed to their willingness to study the marketplace and educate themselves. The band’s commercial success attributed to their educated strategy and staying at the forefront of what’s important. It took a year to prepare and influenced by their previous “Countdown to Extinction”.
The band introduced a more melodic mix, featuring crunchy riffs and speedy guitar solos. They also re-evaluated their songwriting techniques, recasting some lyrics to better reflect the sales and radio airplay environment of the time. The album was a natural progression in Megadeth’s sound. Aiming to broaden their musical horizons while maintaining their thrash metal and heavy metal roots.
