Thangram Release New Single “When They Burn” Featuring Metal Icons

Technical thrash metal force Thangram have unleashed their latest single “When They Burn” a powerful track that pushes the boundaries of progressive heaviness and technical precision. The song features the blistering drumming of Hannes Grossmann (Necrophagist, Obscura, Blotted Science) and a razor-sharp guest solo by Nikolay Atanasov of Rezet, bringing together some of the finest musicians in the extreme metal world.

A Legacy of Collaboration

Formed in 2018 Thangram is the brainchild of Steve Saroglia (guitars), John Knight (vocals) and Antonio Cicciarello (bass). The name of the band is a combination of the words “thrash” and “tangram” which represents their ability to create endless sound shapes through complex songs and constant energy. That makes them stand out in the current technical metal scene is the way they mix heavy, aggressive beats with progressive and experimental touches.

Over the years, Thangram have worked with some of the most respected names in metal. Their debut single “A Day in the Life of Ivan D” featured the late Sean Reinert (Cynic, Death) on drums and Santiago Dobles (Aghora, Pestilence) on guitar. After Sean’s tragic passing in 2020, the band honored his legacy by releasing the track in 2022 as a tribute.

Continuing their journey, Thangram released “Multiverse (The Cosmic Horizons)” with Hannes Grossmann once again behind the drum kit, and shred legend Ron Jarzombek (Watchtower) contributing a jaw-dropping solo. The song explored the concept of parallel universes and the mysteries of existence. Proving Thangram dedication to ambitious themes as well as technical musicianship.

The New Era: “When They Burn”

With “When They Burn” Thangram show their most ferocious and forward-thinking work to date. The song blends punishing riffs, complex rhythms and soaring vocal lines, all elevated by Grossmann explosive drumming and Atanasov searing solo. The track cements Thangram place among the most exciting technical metal acts of today.

About the song:

The song is about the misuse of religions which are used as a means to oppress people and commit the most heinous crimes. The original meaning linked to man’s spirituality gives way to a mere system of control of nations. A means used to subjugate the individual’s conscience is to make him believe he is inadequate, dirty, unworthy. In this way it is possible to submit the will to a tyrannical ideal.
