Anthrax’s Reunion with Original Member After Four Decades

Thrash metal aficionados rejoice as the classic Anthrax member, Dan Lilker, makes a triumphant return to the band’s lineup after an awe-inspiring four-decade hiatus. Lilker’s comeback coincides with a limited series of tour dates, injecting fresh energy into Anthrax’s live performances.

Set to kick off in mid-April, Anthrax’s South American tour will witness Lilker stepping in for bassist Frank Bello, who, due to personal commitments, will be absent from the lineup for this set of shows. Additionally, fans can catch Lilker gracing the stage with Anthrax at two esteemed U.S. festivals scheduled for May.

Referencing the upcoming tour, Anthrax expressed their elation at the prospect of reuniting with Lilker, acknowledging his pivotal role in filling Bello’s absence. In a press release, the band emphasized their enthusiasm for the imminent performances, promising an electrifying experience for attendees.

Lilker himself eagerly anticipates his return to the Anthrax fold, expressing his excitement at the prospect of jamming with the band once more. Reflecting on his departure from Anthrax in 1984, Lilker humorously recalls the band’s jest that he might be needed again in forty years—a prophecy that has now come to fruition.

As a founding member of Anthrax alongside Scott Ian, Lilker played a pivotal role in shaping the band’s early sound and contributed significantly to their debut album, “Fistful of Metal” released in 1984. However, tensions with then-vocalist Neil Turbin ultimately led to Lilker’s departure from the band.

Reflecting on his time with Anthrax during a recent appearance on the Talk Louder podcast, Lilker highlighted differences in professional ethos between himself and Turbin. Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, Lilker’s contributions to Anthrax’s legacy remain indelible, solidifying his status as a foundational figure in the band’s history.

With Lilker’s return, Anthrax fans can look forward to a thrilling convergence of past and present, as the band prepares to deliver a series of unforgettable performances that pay homage to their storied legacy in the realm of thrash metal.
